23 May ESSEX COUNTY EXECUTIVE DIVINCENZO ANNOUNCES PLANS FOR 2016 ESSEX COUNTY ROADWAY RESURFACING PROGRAM Repaving County Roads Enhances Safety and Improves Quality of Life

Essex County, NJ – Essex County Executive Joseph N. DiVincenzo, Jr. announced that Essex County’s Roadway Resurfacing Program for 2016 is underway. The annual paving contract is part of the DiVincenzo Administration’s initiative to enhance safety on the roads and the quality of life by modernizing infrastructure.
“Essex residents and motorists rely on our intricate network of roads to get to work, go to school and carry out their daily errands. My administration is committed to making sure our infrastructure is in the most modern condition so that our daily lives are not interrupted,” DiVincenzo said. “We apologize for any inconvenience the construction may cause, but the end result will improve our quality of life by making it easier and safer to travel through Essex County,” he added.
The County’s Roadway Resurfacing Program includes the following County Roads:
• Newark/Belleville: Franklin Avenue from Franklin Street in Newark to Joralemon Avenue in Belleville
• Nutley: Centre Street from East Passaic Avenue to Franklin Avenue and Passaic Avenue to before Union Avenue
• Bloomfield: East Passaic Avenue from Bay Avenue/Valentine Road to Milton Avenue
• Bloomfield: Hoover Avenue from Joralemon Avenue to Valentine Road
• Livingston: Walnut Street from Mount Pleasant Avenue to Eisenhower Parkway and Eisenhower Parkway to South Orange Avenue
• Livingston: West Hobart Gap Road from Walnut Street to South Livingston Avenue/John F. Kennedy Parkway
• Livingston: Passaic Avenue from South Orange Avenue to Parsonage Hill Road
• Livingston/Millburn: Passaic Avenue from Parsonage Hill Road to County Line with Morris County
• Irvington: Clinton Avenue from Springfield Avenue to Parker Avenue
• Fairfield: Horseneck Road from Plymouth Street to Fairfield Road
• West Caldwell: Clinton Road from Bloomfield Avenue to Passaic Avenue
• Caldwell/North Caldwell: Central Avenue from Bloomfield Avenue to Breenbrook Road West
The project includes milling the old surface off the road, repairing broken curbing, improving handicapped ramps and crosswalk areas at intersections, laying new pavement and painting striping on the new surface.
Smith Sondy Asphalt Construction Co. from Wallington was awarded a competitively bid contract for $5.8 million to perform the road work. The project is being supervised by the Essex County Department of Public Works. Funding is being provided with a $4.8 million grant from the NJ Department of Transportation and $1 million from the Essex County Capital Budget.
