10 Sep ESSEX COUNTY EXECUTIVE DIVINCENZO CONGRATULATES ARTISTS IN ANNUAL ESSEX COUNTY SENIOR CITIZENS JURIED ART SHOW 28 Senior Citizens Receive Recognition for Their Artistic Talent

Cedar Grove, NJ – Essex County Executive Joseph N. DiVincenzo, Jr. congratulated 28 Essex County artists who received awards in the Annual Essex County Senior Citizens Juried Art Show. The artists were recognized during an awards ceremony on Thursday, September 10th at the Essex County Hospital Center in Cedar Grove.
“I congratulate the winners and all the artists who participated in this year’s Senior Art Show. The talent displayed by our senior artists is truly amazing and the artwork is inspiring,” DiVincenzo said. “Essex County has a thriving fine arts community and our Senior Art Show enables our older residents, both professionals and non-professionals, to display their original creations where the public can see them. This is an excellent event for us to promote the arts and inspire our residents to use their talents,” he added.
Artists, and the awards they received, are as follows:
Cedar Grove
- Victoria Augustine received first place in the non-professional watercolor category for “Purple Vase with Doily.”
- Marie Matarazzo received first place in the non-professional pastel category for “Gazebo by the Brook.”
- Roseann Martin received second place in the non-professional drawing category for “Winter Wardrobe.”
- Marie Baglione received an honorable mention in the non-professional watercolor category for “Primitive.”
East Orange
- Maridith Hillman received second place in the non-professional acrylic category for “Toshua Ok Ma.”
Fairfield
- Donald Hults received first place in the professional photography category for “Columns.”
Glen Ridge
- Nancy Taiani received second place in the professional watercolor category for “Burr Oak.”
Livingston
- Harriet Hiller received first place in the professional drawing category for “Woman with Walker” and second place in the professional drawing category for “3 Generations.”
- Malini Parekh received first place in the non-professional photography category for “String of Pearls” and second place in the non-professional photography category for “Temple Guards at Lunch Break.”
- Daftary Jayalaxmi received first place in the non-professional craft category for “Scarf.”
- Sheila Writt received first place in the non-professional oil category for “Abstract-Canadian Sunset.”
- Angela Wang received second place in the non-professional oil category for “It’s a Girl.”
- Judith Friedman received an honorable mention in the non-professional watercolor category for “Rocky Mountain High.”
Maplewood
- Nila Pusin received first place in the non-professional sculpture category for “Buskers.”
Montclair
- Steadman Chandler received first place in the professional oil category for “Nightgown.”
- Horst Hoyer received first place in the non-professional digital imagery category for “Nude in 3-D.”
- Vicki Pollack received second place in the professional sculpture category for “Sirens.”
- Salvatore Giangresso received second place in the non-professional sculpture category for “Wild Trout.”
North Caldwell
- Phyllis Huggett received first place in the professional mixed media category for “Points of View.”
Nutley
- Anthony Andolino received first place in the non-professional mixed media category for “River Boats.”
- Marleen Valdes received first place in the professional watercolor category for “Sunshine on My Shoulders.”
- Carolyn Gregor received second place in the non-professional watercolor category for “Floating Lillies.”
Roseland
- Joseph Mango received first place in the non-professional acrylic category for “Dreams of Tuscany.”
Short Hills
- Nimuben Shah received second place in the non-professional craft category for “Knit Purse.”
South Orange
- Edward Hoffner received first place in the professional acrylic category for “Waves.”
- Victor Esquillin received first place in the non-professional drawing category for “Hello Sister.”
- Sheila Sugarman received first place in the professional pastel category for “Fifty Shades of Autumn.”
- Cindy Wolf received first place in the professional sculpture category for “Ferdinand” and second place in the professional mixed media category for “Menagerie Road.”
The Essex County Senior Art Show and Exhibit was open to all professional and non-professional artists ages 60 and older. Art work was judged on originality, composition, style, and quality and creativity. Seniors whose artwork was awarded first place are automatically entered into the NJ Senior Citizens Art Show. The NJ Senior Citizens Art Show will be on display at Meadow Lakes Senior Living, 300 Meadow Lakes, East Windsor, from September 24th through October 28th. Viewing hours are Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. A Closing Reception and Awards Ceremony will be Thursday, October 29th at 10:30 a.m.
The Essex County Park System was created in 1895 and is the first county park system established in the United States. The Park System consists of more than 6,000 acres and has 22 parks, five reservations, an environmental center, a zoo, Treetop Adventure Course, ice skating rink, roller skating rink, three public golf courses, two miniature golf courses, golf driving range, three off-leash dog facilities, a castle and the Presby Memorial Iris Gardens.
